Skateboarding in the West has been a part of modern culture for at least the last 35 years becoming big business in its own right. Over the past few years China has become an ever increasingly popular destination for skate companies to tour.
I often saw the stories about various western skaters visiting China, but never actually saw any stories about actual Chinese skaters and the scene there. I wanted to find out about the scene and actually meet the real China skaters myself.
What I discovered is a small yet blossoming scene reminiscent of the early days of skating in the West. A tiny community in a huge country that flies in the face of mass conformity, that strives to be individual and do something different.
